UPSC CSE Recruitment 2024 Notification : The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 on February 14, 2024. The CSE is a nationwide competitive exam conducted by UPSC for recruitment to various services and posts under the Government of India, such as Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and others.

The UPSC CSE 2024 Notification consists of three stages: Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Personality Test. The Preliminary Exam is scheduled to be held on May 26, 2024, while the Main Exam will commence from September 20, 2024. The Personality Test will be conducted after the declaration of the Main Exam result.

The UPSC CSE 2024 recruitment notification contains important information such as eligibility criteria, vacancies, application process, exam pattern, syllabus, admit card, result, and selection process. Candidates who are interested and eligible to apply for the UPSC CSE 2024 can fill the online application form at the official website of UPSC: https://upsc.gov.in/ from February 14, 2024 to March 5, 2024.

UPSC CSE 2024 Eligibility criteria

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Age Limit: The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years as on August 1, 2024. There is a relaxation of age limit for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per the government rules.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidate must hold a degree from any of the recognized universities or possess an equivalent qualification.
  • Number of Attempts: The candidate can attempt the UPSC CSE up to six times. There is a relaxation of number of attempts for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per the government rules.
    The vacancies for the UPSC CSE 2024 are not yet announced by the UPSC. However, based on the previous year’s data, it is expected that there will be around 800 vacancies for various services and posts. The reservation of vacancies for candidates belonging to different categories will be as per the government rules.

UPSC CSE 2024 Application Process

  • The candidate has to visit the official website of UPSC: https://upsconline.nic.in/upsc/OTRP/ and click on the link “Apply Online” under the Recruitment section.
  • The candidate has to register themselves by providing basic details such as name, date of birth, email id, mobile number, etc. and generate a registration id and password.
  • The candidate has to login with their registration id and password and fill the online application form by providing personal details, educational details, preference of services and posts, etc.
  • The candidate has to upload scanned copies of their photograph and signature as per the prescribed specifications.
  • The candidate has to pay the application fee of Rs.100/- either by online mode using net banking/credit card/debit card or by offline mode using cash deposit in any branch of SBI. There is no fee for female candidates and candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwBD categories.
  • The candidate has to submit the online application form and take a printout of it for future reference

UPSC CSE 2024 Exam Pattern

  • Preliminary Exam: It consists of two objective type papers: General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II (CSAT). Each paper carries 200 marks and has a duration of two hours. There is a negative marking of one-third of the marks assigned to each question for wrong answers. The Preliminary Exam is only a screening test and its marks are not counted for the final ranking.
  • Main Exam: It consists of nine descriptive type papers: one essay paper, four general studies papers, two optional papers (from a list of subjects given by UPSC), one language paper (qualifying in nature), and one English paper (qualifying in nature). Each paper carries 250 marks except for the language paper and the English paper which carry 300 marks each. The Main Exam has a total weightage of 1750 marks. The Main Exam is meant to assess the academic ability and intellectual depth of the candidates.
  • Personality Test: It is also known as the interview and has a weightage of 275 marks. The Personality Test is meant to assess the suitability of the candidates for the services and posts they have applied for. The Personality Test is conducted by a board of competent and unbiased observers who have a record of the candidates’ career.

UPSC CSE 2024 Syllabus

  • Preliminary Exam: The syllabus for the General Studies Paper I covers topics such as current events of national and international importance, history of India and Indian national movement, Indian and world geography, Indian polity and governance, economic and social development, environmental ecology, biodiversity, climate change, general science, etc.
    The syllabus for the General Studies Paper II covers topics such as comprehension, interpersonal skills, logical reasoning and analytical ability, decision making and problem solving, general mental ability, basic numeracy, data interpretation, etc.
  • Main Exam: The syllabus for the essay paper is not fixed and the candidates have to write an essay on a topic of their choice from a list of topics given by UPSC. The syllabus for the general studies papers covers topics such as Indian heritage and culture, history and geography of the world and society, governance, constitution, polity, social justice and international relations, technology, economic development, bio-diversity, environment, security and disaster management, ethics, integrity and aptitude, etc.
    The syllabus for the optional papers depends on the subject chosen by the candidates from a list of subjects given by UPSC.
    The syllabus for the language paper and the English paper covers topics such as comprehension, précis writing, usage and vocabulary, short essay, translation from English to the language paper and vice versa.
  • Personality Test: There is no fixed syllabus for the Personality Test. However, the candidates are expected to have a general awareness of current affairs, their academic subjects, their hobbies and interests, their strengths and weaknesses, their vision and goals, etc.
  • The exam centre for the UPSC CSE 2024 will be allotted to the candidates based on their choice of centre filled in the online application form. However, UPSC reserves the right to change or cancel any centre at its discretion.
